# PwdFortress

> PwdFortress is an independent password manager publication. We publish comparisons based on documented capabilities, public specifications, zero-knowledge encryption analysis, independent audit decodes, public pricing, and passkey adoption tracking for Bitwarden, 1Password, NordPass, Proton Pass, Dashlane, Keeper and KeePassXC.

PwdFortress publishes independent password manager reviews and a public methodology in French, English and Spanish. Recommendations are based on documented vendor capabilities, public specifications, decoded Cure53 and Insight Risk audits, and public pricing. The site is independent, affiliate-funded (disclosed on every page), and technical claims are checked against official whitepapers and published audits before publication.

### How to share a password securely - what messaging apps cannot do
End-to-end encryption protects the part of the journey that was already safe; the copy left in both mailboxes is the part nobody cleans up. Four properties a sharing method must satisfy (encrypted at rest, addressed to an identified person, revocable, expiring), the three methods that meet them (sharing inside a password manager, an expiring encrypted link such as Bitwarden Send, or delegated access via a family or business plan), and the case where a shared credential is a symptom rather than a solution.

Client-side strength evaluator using zxcvbn algorithm + real-time Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) k-anonymity API lookup. The HIBP check sends only the first 5 characters of the SHA-1 hash - the full password never leaves the browser. ### OWASP password storage parameters - benchmark and configuration checker
The only third-party page the OWASP Password Storage Cheat Sheet links to is an interactive parameter tool, not an article. This is one: it measures how many PBKDF2 iterations the reader's own machine sustains per second (Web Crypto `deriveBits`, calibration pass then three timed runs, median retained), then checks a submitted configuration against the OWASP thresholds and names the threshold that is missing.
Thresholds served on the page, transcribed from the OWASP Password Storage Cheat Sheet and dated on the page itself: Argon2id m=47104 KiB/t=1/p=1, m=19456/t=2/p=1, m=12288/t=3/p=1, m=9216/t=4/p=1, m=7168/t=5/p=1 (presented by OWASP as equivalent). scrypt N=2^17/r=8/p=1 down to N=2^13/r=8/p=10. bcrypt work factor >= 10, input capped at 72 bytes. PBKDF2 minimum iterations: HMAC-SHA256 600,000, HMAC-SHA512 220,000, HMAC-SHA1 1,400,000. OWASP preference order: Argon2id, then scrypt, then bcrypt, then PBKDF2. Hashing budget: under one second.
Stated limits, because they bound what may be cited from this tool: Argon2id and scrypt are deliberately NOT benchmarked, because Web Crypto exposes neither and shipping a WebAssembly build would measure the build rather than the reader's server. A browser is not a production server, so the measurement is an order of magnitude for the reader's own machine, not a backend benchmark. Parallelism is displayed but not scored, because OWASP presents it as a tradeoff dimension rather than a threshold.
